Six more this week!

It was a great postcard week for us!!  We received 6 more!!

Our first is from China!!

This postcard is a picture of the sky and clouds with the caption "Gathering".    It is from China and the sender stated that each year is represented by one of 12 animals in China and this year is the Chinese Tiger Year!

The next postcard is from not too far from where we are....

A postcard from New York City!

A beautiful black and white postcard with a scene of New York City and a listing of all the famous spots in the city!  It's been a few years since we have been there, but I think it's time to make another trip!!    The woman who sent it also drew a few pictures of some NY things...an apple (for The Big Apple), a taxi (which you can see all over the city) and a hot dog (for the famous hot dog stands on the street corners!)  She is quite an artist...the pictures are great!

Our next is from Norway!

The sender is from Fauske, a small town in Nordland County.  Fauske is known for several marble quarries that are located in the municipality. The marble is exported to many countries, where it can be observed in many monumental buildings, among them the United Nations Headquarters in New York City!  The fourth picture down on the left is a scene from Geiranger.  Geiranger is the crowing glory among Norway's fjord district's pearls of natural beauty. Majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, beautiful and wild waterfalls, lush, green vegetation and deep blue waters.

The next one is also from Norway!

It shows a scene from Skudeneshavn.  Skudeneshavn's old town, consisting of 225 wooden houses, is regarded as one of the best preserved in Europe. In 2004, it was voted Norway's "Summer Town" by listeners to NRK Radio.

Next up......Poland!

This postcard is from Poland and shows the Renaissance Town Hall in Poznan.   It was used as the City's administration building until 1939.  The gothic town hall that preceded it on this site burnt down in 1536 and was replaced by the Italian architect Giovanni Battista Quadro with the present structure. 

The sender of this postcard also drew a cute picture for Jack...it's a bumble bee!!  Another great artist!!

Our last postcard is from Germany!

It's of Lohr am Main....Lohr am Main (officially: Lohr a.Main) is a town in the Main-Spessart district in the Regierungsbezirk of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) in Bavaria, Germany. 

Two more!

We were excited to see two more postcards in the mail yesterday!!

Our first was from Lithuania!

My son Jack thought this was great especially with his name right on the front!! 

The character on the front is a German advertising cartoon that was created in 1969 and was very popular in the 1970's and can be found on, amongst other things, chewing gum, T-and sweat-shirts, stickers, towels, plush figures, to a variety of stationery range with cards, wrapping paper and calendars. 

The sender is from Vilnius, which is the capital of Lithuania and is a very beautiful old town which is involved in the UNESCO list!

Our second card is from China!

It's a beautiful view of Jade Snow Mountain!

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a mountain massif (also identified as a small mountain range) near Lijiang, in Yunnan province of southwestern China. Its highest peak is named Shanzidou (5,596 m or 18,360 ft). The view of the massif from the gardens at the Black Dragon Pool (Heilong Tan) in Lijiang is noted as one of China's finest views. The far side of the mountain forms one side of Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia).

Shanzidou has been climbed only once, on May 8, 1987, by an American expedition. The summit team comprised Phil Peralta-Ramos and Eric Perlman. They climbed snow gullies and limestone headwalls, and encountered high avalanche danger and sparse opportunities for protection. They rated the maximum technical difficulty of the rock at YDS 5.7

Two more this week!

This week we received two postcards!  The first one is from China!

It's a nutcracker!!  Jack really liked this...he always loves when the nutcrackers are out in the stores at Christmas time!

Our other postcard is from Portugal!

It's from the beautiful city of Evora.  I love the old architecture and the bright colors!!  Due to its well-preserved old town center, still partially enclosed by medieval walls, and a large number of monuments dating from various historical periods, including a Roman Temple, Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One from China today!

Jack and I received a postcard from China today! 

The card says it's the Rocky Cave Temple at Gongyi.  I tried to research this to find out a little more about it, but couldn't find anything about it. 

If anyone knows anything about it's history, I'd love to hear it!

Over the last couple of days, we have received five more postcards to add to our collection!

The first one comes from Lithuania....

This photo is of Nida...located inNeringa.  The coastline is included in UNESCO....Parnidis Dune is the biggest dune in Lithuania!

The next postcard is from Wales! 

This is the National Flag of Wales...The woman who sent it thought Jack would really like it since it was a dragon....and she was right!  She suggested that we make a dragon craft, and I think that's a pretty good idea!  We'll have to find something good to make!

The next one is from Canada...

It's from Edmonton!  The building is the Legislature Building...it's located on top of a hill overlooking a river!   Looks so pretty with the fountains!!

This one is from China!

This is a picture of Baoshu Pagoda located in Hang Zhou, the city where the young girl who sent it lives!

The last one is from a woman in Turkey, who moved there from Portugal...the postcard is of Portugal.

I love these boats...the sails are pretty cool!  It's from Oporto City, where the person who sent it used to live!

Ten more!

In the last couple of days we have received ten more postcards!! This is so exciting, I don't think a day has gone by where at least one postcard wasn't in our mailbox!

First up....Switzerland!

This is from a young boy name Ludovic...

Like Jack and I, this little guy is collecting postcards from all over the world with his dad!  This picture is Delemont City in the french talking part of Switzerland!

This card is from Algeria...it's a mapcard, showing northern Algeria and the main riches of each location!

The woman who sent it loves the Fennec Fox...it's so cute with it's huge ears!!  See him in the area labeled Laghouat??  I like him too!

The next postcard is from China, and it shows Chongqing, in the central business district.  The young lady who sent it is a high school student and lives in Chongqing.  The postcard also says Happy New Year in the upper right hand corner!

Our next postcard came from Belize....it's from a Taiwanese young man who is volunteering for the Belize government!  It's a picture of Belize City, former capital and home to a fascinating blend of cultures.

Next up, Germany!  It's got many pictures from the country, with a picture right in the middle of one of the most famous castles there, Castle Neurchwanstein!  It's beautiful!

The next 2 are from Tasmania!  The first one shows the Tasmanian Brush Tail Possum...the woman who sent it said she has about seven of them living underneath her house!  They are nocturnal, so they have a habit of having races on her deck in the middle of the night!

The other one has a mom and joey Wallaby!  The picture was taken at a park near where she lives!

Our next card is from India. It shows a tea plantation in Munnar Hills, Kerala.

Another one from China, this one shows Yellow Mountain.  It says there is a 'rock monkey' gazing at a sea of clouds....I think I can see it over on the left, but I'm not too sure!

Our only postcard that came today is so cute, it's from Germany...it has a boar on the front, digging his nose in the mud...

it says "lebensqualitat ist eine Geschmacksfrage!"

It means "The quality of life is a matter of taste!"  I think that's very true!

The woman who sent it works at the postoffice and is able to get some really great stamps...one of the three stamps on it is about 3" x 5"!!!  It's a picture of historical race cars, and it's very colorful!  Jack loved the picture of the boar AND the stamps!!

 

It was a HUGE postcard week!

If you can believe it, we have received 18 postcards in the last two days!!!!  A few people sent a handful of cards from their countries, that was such a nice surprise!!

The first six are from Cyprus...all from the same woman that sent the picture of the monastery in the previous post!!  She sent a few with cute pictures that Jack would like as well as some scenery from where she lives!

I love all of them!!

The next one is from Illinois!  Jack and I really liked this one because it has a sock monkey on it...I had one as a small child, and Jack got one from his Grandma for Valentines Day!

This next one is from Holland...the Netherlands!  I love cows and tulips, so this one is perfect for me!!

Look at those tulips in the background...I am so jealous!!

The last one from yesterday was from Russia...such a pretty picture!!

They almost look like little blueberries on a pinetree!

Today, we got 3 from a woman in Australia...totally cute!  They show some of the wildlife where she lives....she told me that she see kangaroos everyday in her yard!!

How can you not love thoses little koala bears!!????

The next one is from Italy...it's the Basilica di Monte Berico in the Province of Vicenza.  It was built in 1680-1703!

Next up....Alaska!  What I thought was neat was that we are making Jacks bedroom look like a lodge, with moose and bears...and what shows up today??

Now, what's the chance of getting both a bear postcard and a moose postcard??  I think I am going to frame each of them for Jacks room!

This next postcard is from China...Morning in the countryside in Gui Zhou Province...the houses are built on the mountain side!

Our last one today came from South Africa!   From the Southern Tip of Africa, the city of George.  George is located right in between the mountains and the sea.  They have a sunny, hot climate with downpours occasionally.  The woman who sent it is a photographer and a grandma to 7!

She included some sentences in her mother tongue:  Afrikaans!

"Dankie vir die lekker gesels" - thanks for the nice chat!

"kom kuier gerus in S.A." - Do come and visit in South Africa!

"ons het pragtige wilde diere en wildspare" - we have beautiful wild life, game and game parks!

"Groete en beste wense aan julle!" - Greetings and best wishes to the two of you!

I liked that she did that!!
